Verify before you sell
Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 every dealer must hold a current licence from their council (or the relevant national register — EA in England, NRW in Wales, SEPA in Scotland). This record is a point-in-time extract (retrieved 2026-10-12); licences lapse and get renewed. Check the licence is current before handing over metal and insist on traceable payment.
